Drop your iPhone on a magnetic charger and three names may come up: MagSafe, Qi2 and Qi2.2. In short, they all share the same magnetic alignment idea; the difference is speed and certification.
MagSafe: where it started
Apple introduced MagSafe with the iPhone 12 in 2020. A ring of magnets around the charging coil makes the phone land in exactly the right spot every time, cutting wasted energy and heat.
Qi2: MagSafe for everyone
The Wireless Power Consortium, which sets wireless charging standards, published Qi2 based on MagSafe with Apple's contribution. Thanks to Qi2's magnetic power profile, certified chargers from other brands snap onto iPhone like MagSafe and charge at up to 15W.
Qi2.2: the 25W era
Announced in mid-2025, Qi2.2 (Qi2 25W) raised magnetic wireless charging to 25W. According to the sources, with iOS 26 the iPhone 16 family and later support up to this new speed, though the real peak varies by model (around 22W for iPhone 16 / 16 Pro and 20W for iPhone Air). iPhone 12-15 also work with Qi2.2 chargers, just at their own maximum speed.

How to choose a charging stand
- Speed comes from the charger: the charging disc and power adapter set the speed, not the stand. For 25W, use a Qi2.2-certified or latest MagSafe charger and a powerful enough USB-C adapter.
- Heat: a stand that leaves air around the disc reduces heat during long charges.
- Angle: about 60° is ideal for using iPhone StandBy as a bedside clock or widget display.
- Cable routing: a design that runs the cable through the body keeps the desk tidy.
CraftWi stands and Qi2
The Ø56.2 mm cradle in CraftWi Dock, Pro Dock and Pro Ultra Dock holds the Apple MagSafe charger and same-size (Ø55.5 × 4.5 mm) Qi2 magnetic discs without play. If you upgrade to a Qi2.2 charger, your stand keeps working with it; the 60° angle is set for StandBy and the cable hides under the base.
